Colorado Fishing License

Purchasing a Fishing License

Before you hit the river, there’s one piece of gear you can’t forget — a valid Colorado fishing license. Not only is it the law for anyone 16 and older, it’s also one of the most important tools we have for keeping Colorado’s fisheries healthy.

License fees directly support Colorado Parks & Wildlife programs that protect fish habitat, fund stocking efforts, improve river access, and conserve the wildlife and landscapes we all enjoy. Every license sold helps ensure that future generations of anglers will have the same incredible opportunities to fish Colorado’s rivers and lakes.

What Kinds of Licenses Are Available

  • Annual Fishing License (Resident & Nonresident)
  • One-Day or Additional-Day License
  • Youth License (ages 16–17)
  • Senior License (ages 64+)
  • Second-Rod Stamp (to fish with two lines)
  • Habitat Stamp (required with most licenses and supports conservation)

What You’ll Need to Purchase a License

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Proof of residency (for Colorado residents)
  • Social Security Number or ITIN (for anglers 16+)
  • Knowledge of which license type you want (annual, daily, youth, etc.)
  • Be prepared to purchase a Habitat Stamp if required

Where to Get Your License

  • Online through Colorado Parks & Wildlife: Colorado Parks & Wildlife License Purchase
  • Through the myColorado App (digital license option)
  • In person at local vendors — here in Fraser, you can purchase one at Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply
  • Please note: Winter Park Flyfisher does not sell licenses in-store
