Fraser River - Winter Park | Overview
Flowing right through the heart of Winter Park and Fraser, Colorado, the Fraser River is our home water—an accessible, scenic gem that offers year-round angling opportunities for all skill levels. This freestone stream begins near Berthoud Pass and winds its way north through the Fraser Valley, feeding into the Colorado River near Granby. Along its journey, the river holds healthy populations of brown and rainbow trout that thrive in its cool, clear mountain currents. Whether you’re wading a public stretch behind town or exploring quieter upstream sections, the Fraser rewards anglers with classic pocket water, deep runs, and plenty of local charm. Its proximity to town makes it a perfect option for a quick morning session before work or a full day on the water surrounded by mountain views and wildlife.

Current Conditions
April 2026: The Fraser River through Winter Park is running low for this time of year but remains fishable, and like the rest of the valley it’s starting to feel more like June than April. Focus on deeper pockets, shelves, and cut banks where fish are holding, with some trout beginning to slide into nearby riffles during the warmer parts of the day. Fish are keying in on BWOs and midges, and while dry fly activity has been improving, nymphing remains the most productive approach. Dry dropper rigs are a great way to cover water here given the lower flows.
