Vazquez Creek | Overview
Tucked just southwest of downtown Winter Park, Vasquez Creek is a small but beautiful mountain stream that offers anglers a true high-country fly-fishing experience. Fed by snowmelt from the Vasquez Peak Wilderness, this clear, cold creek winds through pine forests and meadows before joining the Fraser River right in town. Its pocket water, riffles, and shaded pools make for classic small-stream fishing that rewards a stealthy approach and light tackle. Wild brook, brown, and rainbow trout call these waters home, often rising eagerly to well-presented dry flies during the summer months. The creek’s intimate size makes it ideal for wade fishing and for anglers looking for a quiet, scenic alternative to the larger rivers nearby.

Recommended FLies
Vazquez Creek is iced over for the season, and most sections are unfishable until spring. We’ll resume updates in late March or April as ice begins to come off. Through the winter, your best options are nearby tailwaters—including the Colorado River below Shadow Mountain, the Williams Fork, the Colorado River at Parshall, and Muddy Creek—which all offer more consistent open water and productive winter fishing.
